Free software and hosting from Microsoft with BizSpark
We all like free stuff don't we? Hot on the heels of Sun and their excellent Startup Essentials program, Microsoft have recently launched their new BizSpark initiative to support start-ups developing SaaS solutions. In short, if your business has been going for less than 3 years, your turnover is under $1 million, and you are developing a SaaS solution then you are likely to qualify.
The program offers free licenses for Microsoft software (primarily development tools, server operating systems and database applications) for 3 years, plus enhanced support facilities, marketing and networking tools and facilities, and cloud hosting through Microsoft. After the three years are up you are expected to purchase any licenses still in use and pay a small fee if you wish to remain in the programme and continue to access the support and marketing tools.
